The 26th NC is recruiting members...we are the largest re-enactment unit in the state of NC (200 infantry members) and have been in existence since 1981...we are a state-wide unit, ranging from all areas of NC...we also have about 15 out-of-state members who travel from PA, NJ and GA to most of the events..
Items of interest:
1) We have an active and up-to-date website ( www.26nc.org );
2) We publish a bi-monthly re-enacting newsletter (The Rebel Boast );
3) We also publish a historical magazine three times a year (Company Front);
4) All Officers and NCO's are tested (this since 1987) and all Officers and NCO's are "reviewed" each year by the Review Board made up of only enlisted men to determine if they are to stay in their current positions;
5) Our unit is very active in preservation as we have performed the following;
a) The cleaning and restoration of the NC Monument at Gettysburg (1985);
b) Assisted the North Carolinina Society with the dedication of the two 26
the NC monument at Gettyburg (1985 & 1986);
c) Assisted the North Carolina Mues. of History in the creation of the Civil
War Display (which ran from 1999-2006)...
d) Raised the money to restore the 26th NC's Burgess Mill flag (2004);
e) Raised the money to dedicate a monument to the 26th NC at the New
Bern (NC) Battlefield (2007);
f) Formalized our partnership with the North Carolina Mues. of History
which will offically start this year...in this partnership we will select
an item(s) to be restored and start the fund-raising process...
g) We have been fortunate to work with many National, State and
Private Sites over the years...from Appomatox Court House,
Gettysburg, Sharpsburg, Ft. Moultire, Petersburg, Zeb Vance
Birthplace, Tryon Palace, Bentonville, Bennett Place, Ft. Fisher, Ft.
Anderson, the State Capital in Raleigh, New Bern Battlefield, and
Pamplin Park to name a few...
6) We are a dual impression unit (have been since 1986)...our primary Federal impression is of the 24th Michigan, however we have shifted to a more generic eastern and western Federal impression to better suit the needs...
7) We have a very strict set of guidelines (Standard Operating Procedures and an approved vendor list that all members are to go by...
8) We DRILL - alot...we are out at each and every event to get better...
9) We do campaign-oriented events when the event lends itself to it...we also do garrison-style events when necessary...either way we strive to do things right...

PS - Please do not confuse our unit with any other unit that calls themself the 26th NC...they are not members of the 26th NC, Re-Activated, as this was done by the state of North Carolina in 1985...
