I have recently purchased a 1855 Springfield bayonette..I believe that it is a Type I because of the way the mortise on the locking ring stops at the stud.
At the base of the blade is a dot and under the dot is US stamped very clear. There is a R under the US.
Att he base of the socket is a very small captiol A.
Any help in identification would be greatly appreciaed.
I also have the sheat and there is the 7 rivet arrangement.. The frog is a finished leather, not buff or raw..
