I have a nice P 53 Enfield and my desire is to obtain an appropriate good quality scabbard/frog and cartridge box that would be approrpiate for dual (US/CS) impressions. How about the early 2 rivet (pattern 1859) scabbard or would an enfield (British) scabbard/frog be more appropriate? Also any suggestions for a cartridge box?
Best Regards

A two rivet scabbard, and a 61 model box would be good for a more generic all war impression.Robert Serio sells some pretty good ones for somelike like $35 or $45,(can't remember which). They are pretty good.Order a two rivet for now,and then maybe a seven rivet later for a late war impression.
You see alot of reenactors using Enfield frog/scabbard,but that's the only peice of Enfield leather. In truth, either the leather came in a set (box, pouch, scabbard, belt) or no leathers at all. That wouldn't be wrong for US impressions, but the two rivet and 1861 box is more generic.
Change the US belt to a civilian style belt, and you could use the Federal leathers until you can obtain Confederate leathers.Federal leathers used by Confederates would be good for mid-late war,but for early war at least, you should obtain a set of CS leathers. And you might get you the point where you will want obtain a set of mid war CS leathers.Of course, you can also mix/match leathers.(A Federal cartridge box and two rivet scabbard,a CS cap pouch, and a civilian belt for example).
Hope this helps some.
