I have a Uberti 1858 Remington and a Pietta 1851 Navy....Both take No. 11 caps..The caps that i have been using are CCI no.11 Magnum caps... I cannot find std caps... In order for these caps to stay on the cylinder when rotated, I have to squeeze them together ever so slightly.
Today while in a gunshop, i bought some caps in a plastic container and the name i believe is in Belgium..
It says AMORCES DE CHASSE CANNELEES. On the cover is a picture of crossed rifles over an infantry bugle..On each cap is a W
These caps when put on either of my revolvers fit so much better and tighter that no adjustments have to be made on the cap itself..
this made we wonder if there ws a better made american cap that i could purchase or if anyone knew anything about these caps that i had bought.i

There are some caps that come out of Germany, I think, that are 10.75's and shoud fit fine as well. They are in a small red plastic container with light green label.

You are right, they are in a plastic container, but the label is red. do you have any ides about the other question of the No. 11 magnum caps having to be squeezed to fit snugl.. I cannot find find non magnum no. 11's
there is no wear on the cones of each cylinder, so that is not the problem.

Richard
I always use the german caps because they are, as has been pointed out, 10.75 for a nice snug fit. 11's are prone to falling off which becomes an issue, especially if one works its way past the hammer into the internal mechanism. This requires a complete takedown to remove the offending cap. They can also get smashed between the hammer and the frame which will keep the hammer from completly striking the cap thereby causing a misfire. Either way, caps falling off your nipples is not a good thing.
I regards to the performance of the 10.75's , I have had no issues in terms of consistent ignition with the german caps and so, have had no reason to search out magnum caps.
I remain, respectfully,

There was an article in one of the NRA or similar magazines about a decade ago that examined chain fires in precussion revolvers. They attributed chain fires to improperly (loose) fitting caps. Thought I would pass that along.

I have used #10 caps for years & that solved the problem of the loose fitting #11's. They don't seen to jam up Colt revolvers like a #11 does either.
