The Fort Pitt Preservation Society has been organized to oppose the burying of the bastion in favor of proper maintenance of the area and badly needed interpretation of the site based on its historic significance. Other concerned Pittsburghers share this view, unfortunately, plans are moving ahead quickly. In the light of day, the people of the Pittsburgh region should decide what is to become of their history.
In improving the park for the future of the city, is it necessary to bury its past? Now is the time to voice your opposition to the destruction of the Fort Pitt Music Bastion.

Dear Sir ,
Hope the petition helps ! Unfortunately , the citizens of most United States ' cities have little concern for American History . In Chicago the streets and parks are named for Civil War heroes but one would be had pressed to find a minie ball in a museum and Camp Douglas is unknown . Illinois doesn't have one Civil War museum although it is univerally acknowledged that Illinoisans won the war.

I'm FROM da' 'burgh so I signed it! I remember going there as a kid. My dad was a history professor so he'd explain everything in a way that made it come alive! What a beautiful place. I sure hope they dont bury it!

Dear Trooper ,
Much obliged for the link . I have been there and enjoyed it but it is not exclusively a Civil War Museum . Its location could be better as most Lincoln sites make no reference to its existance .

David, Where Illinois falls short of CW museums I think it makes up for it by having some of the best archives on Illinois units and the members. So many unit artifacts where kept and displayed in the almost all the GAR posts (and there where many) and with the passing of all the vets most all artifacts disappeared. With so many units during the CW that Illinois provided it is a shame there is no specific museum for the Illinois participation and the winning of the CW. :p
