Just got my second pair of shoes....my first pair has lasted 7 years. I would like to get as much life out of these as possible. Any advice? I literally have had these new shoes for 20 minutes-they fit great and breaking in doesn't seem like it will be a problem.

There's been discussions of this on either this board or the AC board. My be easier to run a search on "shoe care" on both boards. Just a thought.

Just keep them clean and oiled, greased, etc. to maintain moisture and suppleness. I've heard that you should avoid petroleum-based conditioners. I'd suggest storing with cedar shoe trees when not in use. But, as noted, there are likely other suggestion via the search function, particularly regarding appropriate treatments.

If your shoes get wet, DON'T put them next to the fire. It will cause the leather to shrink, and will generally end up ruining your shoes.

All of the recommendations are spot on and will increase the life of your shoes or boots. Pay attention to Andy's suggestion on a good boot grease. If you have none, Mo. Boot and Shoe out of Neosho, Mo. has wonderful products.
