Gentlemen, I am starting the project of making a hardtack box and need to know the following about the boxes in general: their dimensions, what kind of wood was normally used, what was usually stamped on them or marked on them, how they were put together, if there are any good pictures of any, how thick the wood was, and what type of nails were used in putting them together. Any other information you have on hardtack boxes or making them would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any responses.

I found all these by putting "hardtack boxes" in a search engine (Altavista) and hitting the Enter key. Wanna know a secret? Shhh, don't tell anyone else... (whispering) you can do this too...

To add a litttle something to Frenchie's post. I went to the A-C Forum and typed "Hardtack Boxes" into their search folder. There must be 15 or 20 threads that will tell you pretty much what you'd need to know to build hardtack boxes.

I almost said this was everything you'd need to know, but there's new research on almost every subject.
