You'll have to check with the event regs. We're just doing a MO State Guard infantry impression.

I agree with Mr. Comer. We are starting to get a few takers here and there on this. Please join up...your input is pivotal. Lets make this an event to remember. All are welcome!

The board is up and running. I would like to invite those of you who fell in with us at TR to give it a look. Everyone is welcome and we are looking forward to new faces as well.

Kevin, I know there will be a large cav effort there on the Federal side. Watch the FFD website for more information.

Indeed, US Cav was in full number at Twin Rivers. If you would like to, you can contact Ron Orange (Confederal) as he is the head of the US Cavalry for the FFD. Good person to work with.

I'm definitely in. Stacie uploaded a copy of her ancestor's diary and letters describing his participation at Wilson Creek.

Thanks for the kind word.
My role as Federal Cavalry Commander at Twin Rivers was for that event only. Not sure of assignments at any other events as of today.

For the MSG, they did have uniforms! (See STERLING PRICES LIEUTENANTS) The rest were in civilian clothing-- Butternut it was called but was actually dark brown-- mens frock coats were worn by both young and old. Light blue jeans trousers and butternut coats the most common. Accoutrements, they were issued cotton haversacks just before the BATTLE. The use of Battleshirts is overdone--

Oh my Tom!

So the MSG has uniforms by this point? Its been so long since I did an Athens event, I'm hazy on the timeline of when and how quickly after that they got uniforms.

Dark brown frocks of wool, or of wool/cotton jean?

Is there an extant original on the cotton haversacks? There's something I'd be willing to discuss doing an issue run of.......

Just for clarification, do you mean just "battleshirts" are over used in this impression or are you including civilian overshirts? From the photos that I have seen most show plain civilian overshirts, civilian coats, and some militia uniforms - with almost no heavily trimmed battleshirts. So I would be in complete agreement with your statement.

Some MSG units did have uniforms, especially the fellows that were in pre-war militia groups. So, there would be some military look to some units and a more civilian one to others.

It is true that early in 1861 that some ST. Louis Militia units were given the job of gaurding a shipment of arms and supplies to Jefferson City. This unit and some other Militiamen did wear their uniforms on this trip.

I can pull out my notes if you want. I do have to state that what the MSG did look like we can piece together for a really authentic look.

If you haven’t checked the board, please do.

Also, these fellows forming up for this are the same folks that were at TR and captured 8 guns during the tacticals! The event is worth it just for the tacticals, and you won’t find finer fellows to throw in with.

Folks, we are well on our way to the battalion we are looking for with over 30 members registered. So, if you are interested in Wilson's Creek and the Missouri State Guard, please check us out!
