I know for the 145th, the Liberty Rifles and 5th NY combined to do an Ellsworth's Fire Zouave impression for 1st Manassas.

From what I hear, the LR has other commitments this upcoming year. Is anyone else planning on doing the 11th NY?

I cannot speak for the LRs, but I have been speaking to alot of people getting ready for the 150th as the 11th. Im making a run of fire shirts, kepis and 1st issue uniforms. If you would like, I can keep you updated on the progress and put you on our list for the uniforms.

I already have the kit from 4 years ago, but will not be using it this time around. I'll be with the CVG in the Southern Division.

But thanks anyway, I was checking to see if any progressive units were making an effort like 4 years ago.

Ergh, I don't even know. It was easier to organize these things when I didn't work weekends and lived in Goofysburg. My site is still up, the info's still there. Go nuts. Last time, it was a dual-company effort between the 5th and LR. As my own LR is max-efforting the 2nd MS thing, I don't know how involved I can/will be in orchestrating an 11th NY effort. I still have the material that Shaun needs to do the flag cooped up here that I really should get back to him. If nothing else, the heck with it, I'm going to go for a walk down Canal Street in April, present a flag to myself, do the seven-count "Tiger! Zouave!" cheer, and then go back to work.

Wow,
I guess I should come on here more often!

I am trying to organize something for 150th Manassas as the 11th NY FIRE ZOUAVES along the lines of last time. It was a blast, and looked amazing, and would be a slap in the face of all that is Ellsworthy if no one did it!!!

The 11th NY First Fire Zouave impression is a go for 150th Manassas. The 5th
NY along with various elements of the National Regiment are going to portray the FZ and welcome anyone else who is interested. Please PM me for if you desire more info. Shaun G. and I have been working on some details. Since we all did this at 145FM it is not anticipated to be all that problematic.

Avenge Ellsworth!

With the large numbers of progressive reenactors going Cs for this event, I predict Zulu wars on the level of the 125ths.

I winder if anyone is talking about force ratios?

Scot Buffington ... That registration is going to be capped at 7500 due to space constraints and "other" considerations of which I have no details. Artillery is by invitation only, and "NO WALK ON REGISTRATION" is in a couple of places in bold letters on the event website.

Darrell,
Are you saying 7500 per side, or 7500 overall?

Kenneth Robinson, myself, Brian Sharp, Matt Willbanks and AJ Lamb are registering for the 11th NY for 1st Manassas.

We also have friends organizing the 69th NY efforts.

Has to be 7500 overall. Very doubtful these days that the hobby has 15,000 total...let alone at one event.

Unfortunately, that doesn't speak to the question of force ratios, only the cap. Do the sponsors intend to insure adequate numbers for both sides, or will they be content with (for example) 7000 Union and 500 Confederate, or visa versa, so long as the total body count is profitable?

The cap is 7,500 a side. The organizers know most of the umbrella organizations attending, and seem confident that they will get a significant portion of those numbers.

Given the size of the battlefield, and the nature of the actual first battle of Bull Run, there is no plan for anything like those numbers to be on the field at the same time. Rather, from what I've heard, the scenarios will call for units to come on the field, get attritted, and leave, in sequence. This means that even if there's a disparity in overall numbers, ratios on the field will be realistic.

Getting back to the main subject rather than creating another...

... Shaun, if I do decide to do this impression, should we be registering/falling-in with the 5th New York?

I am trying to figure out what our guys want to do, the 2nd Mississippi campaigner battalion also being very compelling. Heck, I might do both!

Jason,

you can register with your home organization, and then fall in with the 5th NY. We are all falling in together as Fire Zouaves, and hoping to field multiple companies with decent numbers.

We will be sure to do Ellsworth, "Pony", and all the b'hoys justice in our portrayal, I can promise you that!!!

NEW THREAD STARTED IN THE "RECRUITING OFFICE" FORUM, as this thread may get highjacked with event numbers complaints, predictions, etc. etc.

Moderator, I hope that is not a problem.

the above is a most accurate statement as I heard it first hand during the initial walk through last October. Hopefully it will all play out nicely and do the first sesquicentennial event the justice it deserves.
