Trying to determine correct uniform. Anyone have any photos of the 3rd Tennessee?

Hey Fellas,

New guy here. I am trying to put together a correct reproduction of the uniform my ancestor wore during the war. He was in the 3rd Tennessee (Lillard's) Mounted Infantry, Company K, enlisted at Mt. Vernon, in Monroe County Tennessee. He served from Jan. 1862 until his death at Vicksburg April 11, 1863. He was a Private.

Would anyone here have any photo's of any member of the 3rd Tennessee Provisional Army, also known as Vaughn's or Lillard's 3rd Tennesseee mounted infantry. Prefer photo's prior to July 4th,1863.

I found a photo of two soldiers from another East Tennessee unit and it looked like they had Columbus depot jackets, but the photo was from later in the war. My ancestor's unit drew model 1822 muskets in Lynchburg, Va in June of 1861. No record of any clothing being dawn then, and records show they kept those muskets til the fall of Vicksburg.

After Manassass they spent time back in East Tennessee until they deployed to Vicksburg. I can't find any records of clothing being issued specifically to their unit, not that I'm an expert at researching that stuff. From what I've read, I'm guessing if they were issued uniforms it was probably during their stay in East Tennessee. Would anyone have info on what depot's might have supplied troops in that area? Would it still be the Atanta or Columbus depot?

I appreciate any advice or ideas on this, I want to put together the most accurate impression possible.

I was mildly surprised to see them wearing frocks,( in what appears to be good condition), at this stage of the war.

Pretty sure this is after his sevice in the 3rd though. More likely when he was with Forrest.

Hey, thanks man !! There were 3 units called the 3rd Tennessee and the middle TN units were equipped different than the Confederate East Tennessee one. So, If you can find the East Tn. unit that would be great !

And on a further side note - Private Cook was later a judge. The Colt and Damascus blade are not studio props, all the men had them but the bulk were tossed on the first real march on the Cheat Mountain campaign. The book he's holding is a New Testament presented by chaplain Dr. Quintard. From Toney's THE PRIVATIONS OF A PRIVATE.

I appreciate all the info given me as it helps me further narrow what he could have possibly been wearing, or even not wearing. Which is just as important.
