There's only a few months before the event (October 1 - 3, 2010). Registration is $15, and the deadline is September 10. THERE WILL BE NO WALK-ONS.
There are two Federal companies forming: 25th Indiana Infantry, Company C will be commanded by Seth Graves (Little Egypt Mess) and 25th Indiana Infantry, Company F will be commanded by Scott Lyndon (Hard Case Boys). Greg Richardson (Bitter Brothers Mess) will be commanding the Federal garrison.
Currently, there is only one Confederate company, commanded by Larry McCluney (Jeff Davis Guard). Their portrayal will be the 1st Mississippi Cavalry, Company A (dismounted). We are seeking individuals and groups to form additional Confederate companies. If you are interested, please PM me here or email me at confederate314@yahoo.com.
For guidelines and registration, see the previous thread about the event: Davis Mills Event (http://cwreenactors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18769). Just write your company preference on the registration form when you fill it out.

I've finally gotten a website put together for the event. It's a work in progress, but should help get the information out. You can check it out here:

Howdy, Mr. Spain,
Can you provide a little more information about the immersion non-spectator Davis Mills event? Is it a moving campaign event or a static event? I'm interested, but after reading the Union and CS guidelines, would like more info.
Thanks,
Phil McBride

A group of us were putting together a campaigner company for the mainstream Davis Mills event. The landowner has had some recent medical issues that forced him to cancel the streamer event, but he told us that if we wanted to put something together, we could. We've decided to simply expand upon what we were planning to do with the campaigner company, and add a Confederate element to it as well.
The Federal troops will be garrisoning and constructing earthworks on the property. The Confederates will be harrassing the garrison (a diary account speaks of this occurring during the entire time Davis Mills was garrisoned by the Feds). If there is enough Confederate interest, we will expand the scenario.
The reason the Confederate guidelines have so much Federal equippage and uniform items included is because the force that attacked Davis Mills in 1862 had just successfully raided the Federal depot at Holly Springs the day before. According to period accounts, the Confederates captured US uniforms, accoutrements, rifles, pistols, food, and fresh horses. When they arrived at Davis Mills, they captured a couple of the Federal pickets, because they thought the Rebs were their reinforcements.

Mr. Spain,
Thanks for the more complete picture of what the event will be. Hopefully that will help others decided to sign up. For me, I'm still weighing the travel time and cost from central Texas. Regardless, it's encouraging to see another campaign weekend opportunity.

Cousin Phil,
I recently had the opportunity to walk this property with an entirely different mission in mind. Its a fine piece of land, with only the barest of modern intrusion--the occassional overgrown fencerow, deerstand, and the like. The works were well underway and the deer are glad for the company, though certainly out of season.
You'll find it easily accessible from the four lane divided US 72, and way out in the country. Fuel up before you clear the suburbs of Memphis. Some Friday evenings, Mr. Burton puts on a really nice all you can eat fish fry in his barn out on the highway. Its worth your while to check if that's the case on this particular Friday. The cane syrup crop should also be boiled down, and available for sale, a nice gift for the Mrs.
Any event must of course first be weighed in terms of standards, scenarios, hosts, and history--especially given your travel time. But it is a pretty piece of Mississippi..........

Thank you for the comments. Several of us locals got together a year ago and did the work on the earthworks at Burton's. We've spent the interim gathering the necessary materials to hopefully finish what we started.
The weekend of the event is the same weekend as Mr. Burton's Sorghum Fest. That's the weekend when he'll actually be boiling down the cane. It doesn't get any fresher.
As to the deer, unless I'm badly mistaken, Mississippi's bow season should be open at the time of the event.
This event is being hosted by the Bitter Brothers Mess, Little Egypt Mess, and the HardCase Boys with full cooperation of the Jeff Davis Guard. This was kind of a last minute thing, however, plans are in the making for hosting a full-on hardcore scenario there in January or February of 2012. The intent is to recreate the 1862 Battle of Davis Mills as accurately as possible. Watch this and the AC Forum for more details on this to come.
