Folks,
A number of individuals inquired during the Shenandoah 1862 preservation march and living history program on the weekend of June 12-13 whether Zangroniz Photography would be posting online any results from the weekend.
Yes.
All told, I shot slightly over 650 images over the two days. That number will be reduced to about half (a lot of them, frankly, are repeats, or attempts to accomplish on a second, or third (sometimes fourth!) try what I should have been able to do right the first time but couldn't.
Sometimes, it’s uncanny how alike reenacting and photography can be (right, officers?)!
There will be a gallery with highlights the Saturday activities, one with the Sunday actions.
You will be able to find them at the usual place: www.zphotos.smugmug.com, with the galleries probably labeled something like: 10ShenSat and 10ShenSun.
We will present the usual smorgasbord of battle scenes, camp scenes, relations between the military and the scant civilian “contingent” and even some illustrations of the merchant community and their authentic wares, including the novel period peddler’s cart built expressly for this event by the enterprising Wayne Hutzell.
Even the Federal artillery will have its moment in the limelight… they deserve it for their herculean effort to get a full-bodied bronze Napoleon to the top of that steep hill on Sunday, to try to keep the screaming Confederate hordes at bay. The Federal artillerymen weren’t successful, but the boys in red piping sure put in a bunch of dents in the gray ranks, as the Rebels swarmed through the thick, humid jungle to rout the Boys in Blue.
A small bunch of locals, mostly landowners who generously offered their land as our playground, witnessed the end of the Sunday battle --and they were mightily impressed. One woman and her husband started discussions --on the spot-- to allow their farm to be part of a future scenario. They were introduced to one of the event organizers to pursue further discussions.
A retired doctor and his wife had purchased one key property to keep it from becoming the base of yet another needless housing subdivision. Both were seen trailing the troops non-stop, furiously taking still photos and video. Though their farm was flying the Confederate battle flag atop a huge pole, they magnanimously allowed the vanquished Federals to stop there after the Saturday action, to rest and water down. “This is probably the first time there’s been so many folks in blue wool here since the 1860s,” the lady of the hourse admitted to a news reporter.
That’s mighty significant progress on two important fronts, folks –two sets of locals who “get it.” That’s what this march was meant to help.
And yes, rest assured that Zangroniz Photography will include in its image display a generous sampling of the "Bathing Beauties With Bikinis in the River" incident. That’s all that can be said about that for the time being…
Also, rumor has it that one top commander’s Outrageous (Red) Underwear Show will be unveiled, for the entire world to save for possible future blackmail.
So please stay tuned to this channel. More… as they say in the news business… to come…

In fact, I will.

Now, I feel much better...!
So will the rest of the community...

Yeah Chris, no worries, I think Matt has your outfit beat hands down. You may have been wearing less but Matt's "cool down" attire had accessories!

For your very personal enjoyment, a collection of slightly over 200 images of the Shenandoah 1986 Friday/Saturday portion of the proceedings.
The images include those wacky outfits, camp and battle views and... what so many of you have been waiting for... the Bikini Clad Batallion of River Nymphets. No drooling on those keyboards, please... and no illicit downloading, or I may have to close the gallery!
It is called 10ShenandoahSat.
Comments, as usual, are welcome.
The Sunday portion will follow, as soon as humanly possible.

Thank you for only posting 1 of those photos Julio. Too bad you didn't get one of me and Chris together.

That's why there are no images of those two outfits together.
The camera gear would not have tolerated all the reflections and refractions coming out of those two outlandish outfits.
Understand, I *have* to think of the safety of the equipment.
Too bad I couldn't stop by when you guys were cooling off in the river. Will always wonder if it may have looked like a "wet t-shirt" contest...?

I don't know, but evidently you were NOT in the right place at the right time.
From now on, when anyone asks me how come I didn't manage to get this image or that image at Shenandoah 1862, I shall explain that I was doing my best to immortalize the sacrifices of these Southern Belles for... the cause.
And I thought that every Confederate soldier at the march was poised, camera in hand, on that river bank that evening, but I guess I was wrong.
You missed out, Reb.
War is ****.

Bob, the youngin's from Co E were quick to descend for another round of swimming when they arrived. But to make you feel better, I'm told they were on the (too) young side.

I wasn't able to make it this year, but was there for the last go around. Yep, we had a similar experience there with "sight-seeing". I was with the advance guards that were out in front of the main body by 2-300 yards or so and we had just come down this hill and to a bend in the road. We looked down over the shoulder of the road to see the river when we saw them. Bikini-clad, nicely tanned and laying spread eagle in inter-tubes. Oh yeah, that kept me going for the rest of the march.

Julio, photo #209! It did happen! You might want to check that lense to make sure you didn't at least get a hairline fracture.

Pat, fortunately Lovejoy's back was turned, cause if the camera caught that cravat AND chris' drawers it would have exploded.

What is really amazing me is that Matt actualy took the time to re tie the dang thing. That just takes commitment is all.

No one knows this yet, but I was actually secretly promoted to Gen Anders' Chief of Fashion (he doesn't even know that yet). That pic must have been snapped seconds before I was run out of HQ by the provost.

"Chief of Fashion"

It's an under-represented impression, for sure. :D

So your euphamistically saying folks will "have you perminantly burned into their retinas, forever haunting their inescapable night terrors" then? :D
