To all reenactors,

My name is Jim Dunn and I am a teacher at Oakcrest High School in Mays Landing, NJ. I have planned a Civil War Living History Camp for my high school students to experience. It has taken many hours of hard work to get this event approved and I have finally acheived all the "oks" and permits needed to make this happen. The only thing I am missing are reenactors.

The event will be held on Friday May 21st from 7:20 am to 2:35 pm. All that will be asked is that you set up camp. There will be no engagement, just conversation with students from US History and Military History classes. I understand that the event being on a Friday may cause an issue but I have also been given approval for anyone who may be interested to set up camp the night before and stay on campus to avoid having to travel early in the am on the 21st.

If anyone is interested, please feel free to respond to this post or email me at jdunn@geh.nj.k12us.com or on my cellphone at 609-335-7767.

Thank you for your time,

JIM DUNN

Jim,
Congrats on doing this!! I live in Egg Harbor Township. Being a fellow teacher, I have school that day, but if there is anything you need let me know and I may be able to help.

I am really excited but as of right now its being threatened by lack of reenactor response and participation. If you have any suggestions of names of people I can contact that will help me greatly.

Just out of curiosity, is your school giving a donation to those who attend?

Not to criticize or second-guess but it seems like that would have been one of the first things to be done before any other planning came about.

We are not giving a donation. With the budget cuts from Christie we are unable to contribute any money to the project. And as for the accusation of poor planning, I had two groups confirmed, one Union and one Confederate, but both groups have had to back out due to scheduling conflicts. I am now looking for those willing to help out. I hope to not be forced to cancel this for the kids. They are truly excited about seeing an event that they would never have the opportunity to experience. I hope that some of you will help make this a reality.

Sir,

I've organized similar things for schools and have some idea of the work involved. My hat's off to you. I'm a member of the 15th NJ, based in north Jersey but with members scattered all over. I've put this request on the email list and we'll see if anyone can help out. Can't promise anything, but hope something turns up.

I live about three and a half hours away, and consider myself an ex-pat Jerseyman in PA. :)

Godspeed your plans.

Through my conversations and string pulling with my supervisors, we may be able to offer a donation to those who participate. I know that this was a concern of many who may be interested. Believe me, if we could donate more to your chosen cause we would. What you all do is truly undervalued, but we are limited in what we can do. If you are interested, please contacte me by email at jdunn@geh.nj.k12us.com or by cell at 609-335-7767 as soon as possible. Thanks.
