Civil War “Dollar Daze”

Between getting together some china buttons for someone that I was going to simply send for a buck & the lousy weather here nixing most of my appointments, it occurred to me that there were other doodads I have that others may want for, literally, a buck. Think of it as something of a ”Reenacting Dollar Store” if you will.

Therefore, for each set of each numbered item on here, I’m just asking for….one dollar, shipped.

It’s hardly necessary to say that I’m not doing this for the money (granted, I’m gonna try to not loose any if I can help it), but I have so many little trinkets laying around that I’ve amassed, made, or thieved (not really) that I thought one good-karma-way of thinning things out was to literally have a dollar sale.

For every 5 items a given individual may want, reduce the cost to $4 but I’m otherwise gonna try to keep it simple.

If you want any thing(s) please email me direct at tscoufalos1@juno.com which is also my Paypal address.

Obviously, most people would want to Paypal me the $1 since mailing it to me in some form or another will cost (nearly 50%!) more.

Please don’t Paypal me anything until, say, after 5 pm EST to keep it simple and to make sure I didn’t miss-remember something I’ve listed.

This’ll either be a ridiculous public flop or a dizzying flurry of activity, we’ll see. But what the heck, it can’t hurt.

(1) Half dozen small china buttons, matched as best I can; the small 4 hole variety I can probably cough a full set of six nearly identical ones for 2 complete sets; rest will likely be a little more of a variety but I will still try to match size and eyelets (2 or 4 eyelets per set) as closely as possible. 4 sets available

(2) Half dozen tin paperback buttons. 2 sets available

(3) Set of block “I” buttons. I ought to have at least 4 of these, one set available[B]

(4) Set of Federal eagle buttons, again at least 4 of these, [B]one set available

(5) 5 or 6 brown two-eyelet china buttons one set available

(6) Set of 10 small shell or mother-of-pearl buttons, matched closely two sets available

(7) Set of 3 small (on average, 5-6 inches long by 3-4 inches wide, some bigger, some smaller) handsewn poke bags; various materials including scraps of shirting, scraps of coverlet, scraps of wool flannel; cotton duck, drilling, prints, the occasional black painted bag), grab bag and whatever I pull out; most with drawstrings, some with just a tie tacked to it (I have a bunch, not sure how many sets; check with me for availability)

(eight) Set of 5 garden-variety “natural” pencils you see everywhere on sutler row; no label or anything. 4 sets available

(9) Set of 4 wee little clear glass vials with cork stoppers for tooth powder, sweet oil, or whatever. If you want all or some for tooth powder, I can glue a little label for “Fragrant Sozodont” that I saved from a digitized Leslie's or Harper's on it/them one set available

(10) Set of 4 tobacco wrappers, your choice of “Union” (the Minnie-Ha-Ha/Minnesota one in EOG-Union) or “Confederate” (the one in EOG-Confederate) or any combo thereof, folded and glued on the bottom and left open at the top, ready to fill with your tobacco of choice and seal up. I’ll have to check my computer for images of them at home because apparently they are not saved to this one; I’m not too bashful to say that I really tinkered around a lot to get ‘em right with regard to font, etc, and I’m pretty proud of them. Don’t commit yet and let me make sure that it is a go, but I’m all but certain that I still have them.

(11) Modern plug of tobacco. one available

(12) Modern twist of tobacco. one available Some background on #'s 8&9: I picked some of these up at a store in rural western Virginia on my way to Assault on Allegheny as I thought they would be neat living history items. I tried chewing some of the twist at the event and nearly barfed, so I hardly need more than one of them on hand!

(13) A sizeable wad of cleaning patches cut from scraps of shirting, in various prints. This is what happens to most of my leftovers…and failures. I’m not gonna try and count these or anything; think of a little pile about an inch and a half thick. scads available!

(14) I have that nonspecific leather frog that I made up for a knife scabbard or something that can go for a buck too.

(15) Pair of plaid print handkerchiefs that I literally picked up at a “Hundred Yen Store” in Japan for, well, a hundred yen (or about a buck), each. They really look pretty good for period hankies, believe it or not one set available

That’s about all the junk I can dream up here at the office for right now, but in the coming days there may be more!

Thanks for looking through all of that-

Tom

Well, chalk that up to "flurry of activity" then. Mint, I'll send you a PM...just gimme a few minutes because I actually have my 4th patient of the whole day (!) that came in just now; the only things that have been picked up were the block I buttons, the Federal buttons, and the hankies. The same feller picked up one set of pokes and the set of vials, but I'm 99.99% sure that I have at least 4 more vials and corks on hand, so at least 12 of the 15 items, and more than one set of the multiple-set items, are available to you if you want 'em.

So, 'till further notice...all items on hold pending payment!

Thanks!
