View Full Version : If you are not serious about buying...don't waste sellers time!

I am so sick of people claiming they want to purchase something and then they back out. Quit wasting our time. If you agree to purchase an item, it is a contract! Numerous times I have had an agreement, waited around for a check, and had to email the person only to find oh an unexpected expense came up. What are the odds. Get it together people...grow a pair!
Sorry for my ranting, but I absolutely sick of this.

Hey Andy,
Try this: ask to have payment in hand within one week... I've found this works well. That's plenty of time even for a M.O. to come across the country if mailed promptly. After a week (and a graced day or two) I tell the interested party I haven't received payment and the items go back up for sale. Done.
One time, this very thing happened with a buyer who I knew was a problem with other sellers. When I didn't get funds after 10 days, I emailed him and posted that the item was available again. Then I got a quick message from him saying he "didn't know why the M.O. hadn't arrived yet" and immediately sent a PayPal payment. WEIRD huh? Well the item was shipped out no problem and I never got anything in the mail. Interesting.
Bottom line: give people a deadline for payment and keep true to your word to repost it for sale again if necessary.

While I agree with you all and the one week deadline is a good idea, I find that it can cut both ways.
For Example; I bought something large here ($550), sent a postal M.O. overnight the day the seller decided that he would mail the item vice face to face sale. I waited and I waited and finally on the 66th day I drove 2.5 hours each way to pick it up at the seller's house.
Oh, did I mention that I also PAID FOR SHIPPING?
Sorry for the rant, I bring nothing to the table as a solution.

I don't think anyone should agree to buy an item if they can't pay for it within a few days of the agreement.
Also, the seller needs to ship within a few days of recieving payment. I have been waiting several weeks for a $450 purchase, this is simply unacceptable.
(Although I expect it tomorrow)
There needs to be a thread for leaving feedback, like e-bay. If someone does a good quick transaction put thier name in the "good seller" post. If they suck put em in the "sucky seller" thread.

This has been discussed previously several times on this forum, and the consensus is "Buyer and Seller Beware - you're on your own". Basically, anytime this site allowed negative talk about a seller (or vendor in general), it leaves the site open for litigation. This site makes no money, so it would have to shut down just to defend that action, whether the statements were true or not. You're welcome, and encouraged, to leave postive comments about goods or services, but the negative is greatly discouraged for the above reason.

If someone uses the postal service and doesn't act in a fair and professional manner, please remind them that their inspectors take a dim view of fraud. Failing to supply goods paid for constitutes mail fraud.

Very true Sir, I think the key here is being 100% sure w/your agreement and conversation.
Just yesterday I contacted a seller and said "I will take items A and B".
He sent back, "that will be $150.00 w/shipping".
I sent $150.00 via paypal.
Seller contacts me and says "Sorry! I sold A already, and I have shipped you B. here is the money back for A".
I told seller, "I only want B if I can get A also".
Seller, "Sorry, B is on its way!"
All this happened in about 4-5 hours time.

Tiger Rifle, Paul, Which ever you would like to be addressed:
I got a message that state he would like both items. No immediate payment made to paypal, which happens more often then not.... I got the paypal for both items about 6 hours after we had talked with no confromation of a paypal being sent.
I'm with Liberty Vol, there are a ton of dudes that will waste your time saying they want in item....then when it comes to money they don't have it, etc....
I told all the seller's I would be sending out the items that sameday that the payment was made. The paypal shipping information was already sent via email. I send the second item out and made a prompt refund for the item that I had already sold and shipped to another buyer that was serious and made the payment. I also told you as soon as I get the second package back you would get a refund. I think we are square on this.
I feel an item is sold when the paypal occurs. I will do one week (5 business days) for a Money Order.
i send items out the same day and expect prompt shipment when I make payment. I have had numerous issues with folks here with payment/shipping.
Just this week I got an item bought over 6 weeks ago. Best of Luck with all sales. It almost not worth buying and selling. Time to go to ebay where there is no confusion. It seems worth the time and small amount of money....

I think I made my point very clear in my earlier post...... without any finger pointing or the giving of real names. I was not trying to blame anyone or say that there was any wrong doing or intentions. Just that because of the speed that a transaction can be finished now,(e-mails, pm's, blackbeeries, etc...), we often forget to slow down and "Make the deal", and not just "assume" we are all talking the same language. Pictures are truely worth a 1,000 words, and now it seems we have less problem with description issues and more with money and shipping.
I remember years ago when buying old musket parts that some dealers would send you the parts, if you liked them you would send the payment, if not you would send them back. But first contact to final payment could takes weeks if not a month or more, as all was done by "snail-mail".
I do feel that most of this sets on the shoulders of the buyer to be clear what they want and how they will pay, shiping, etc.... ref. the title of my earlier post, "Buyer Beware". We are always happy to get a package fast/early, but not if it is the wrong item.
But now that our dirty undies are out for all to see, and just so we can understand what happened......
(All times come from my e-mail listings and are Mnt-Standard)
-I send e-mail saying I'll take items A and B, 7:17am
-Pics and total for both w/shipping sent, 7:31am, but not recieved until 11:08am
(kids to school, horses fed, other work done)
-Paypal payment sent , 11:11am.
-I send e-mail saying payment sent, 11:15am
-"Item A is Sold" notice recieved, 11:49am
-I send e-mail that I don't want the deal and please return all payment, 12:07pm
-Recieve "Sorry" e-mail that item B has already shipped, 12:36pm.
So, from the time you said: "A&B are this much" to "A is sold and B is shipped" was about 5 hours.
From the time I sent payment until you told me "B is shipped already", was only an HOUR!!!!!
Thats FAST!!!! No fault, No blame, Just Fast!
