Hi All,
Im new here and just wanted to say hey, and let everyone know who I am and why I'm here.
I am active duty Marine Corps and proud of it! I have been in the Corps now for 5 years. I am very interested in the history of the Marine Corps. I am looking for any and all information on the Marine Corps during the American Revolution and the American Civil War. This was an important time in our nations history and we would do well to remember.
I know that there is very little info on the Marine Corps during this time in history because the Corps was very small.
Please help me in my quest to find info on the Marine Corps by posting here on little known facts as well as websites or books on the subject. Also I am looking for original photos of Marines during the war please post them here or links to them.
Also as a help to anyone doing a search on this subject here are some good websites on the Marine Corps in the Civil War.

I will be updating this when I find out new information or books or pictures.
Thanks for reading and if you have something to contribute please do!

Well I am glad to see your interest in Civil War Marine Corps History. Semper Fi Brother I have shed some blood and done 5 years as an acrive duty Marine as well. I would be more than happy to help with your quest I have many books and spent numerous hours at the National archives as well as have been in contact with the historians at the Marine Corps Museum. As you can see in my avatar I have a U.S. Marine Impression as my secondary and at times find myself doing more research for that than my primary. Well if you have any questions shoot me a PM and I as well as others on the Forum will be glad to help!

www.ussforthenry.com is the website for a Tampa area unit. What they lack for in uniforms and material culture, they make up for in living history, knowledge, and interaction. There is alot of research links on the site, several former Marines who've been published in Civil War Historian and America's Civil War, and we even get out on the water a time or two.

There are a number of excellent general Marine Corps histories out there that cover everything from 10 November 1775 right up to the present. Two Civil War related pieces you might find of interest, however, are David M. Sullivan's 4-volume set, "The United States Marine Corps in the Civil War" and John D. McAulay's "Civil War Small Arms of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps."

I do not yet have "David M. Sullivan's 4-volume set, "The United States Marine Corps in the Civil War"" but I will soon!
If anyone knows of other books please let me know.
Semper Fi
David M. Sullivan, the editor and administrator for the International Naval Research Organization and The Company of Military Historians has written four books on the USMC during the Civil War. They are:
The United States Marine Corps in the Civil War - The First Year
The USMC in the Civil War - The Second Year
The USMC in the Civil War - The Third Year
The USMC in the Civil War - The Final Year
Additionally, he co-authored the introduction to:
The Civil War Uniforms of the United States Marine Corps: The Regulations of 1859.
Finally, while they are marines, they're Rebel Marines!
Biographical Sketches of the Commissioned Officers in the Confederate States Marine Corps.
Got enough? Well, there were army marines too who were shipboard in the rivers of the midwest. Can't remember the book on them and I remember meeting one man who has written the book on one state's marine corps (but can't find a publisher).
Join us at the Annual Conference of The Company of Military Historians. It'll be in Reston, VA around April 13-15, 2010. Dave will be there as usual. He can autograph your copies when you meet him. There will be side trips to Manassas and the National Firearms Museum in Fairfax.
