All,
I am searching for a how to on attaching a leather saber knot to a cavalry saber. I did a search on here but came up empty handed. Also searched google, but once again nothing. I took a look at my copy of EOG and see where the knot goes but before I tear apart the hilt I want to see if anyone has any advice.

Down near the pommel take the open end of the knot and slip it around the guard and put the end of the knot through the loop and pull thight.
i found this in another forum, i hope it helps

Garrett,
Thanks for the help. That's what I ended up doing eventhough it appears in the EOG photo they must have broke down the hilt, slipped the open end on and then re-attached the hilt.
I attach my gold sword knot the same way, but assumed the cavalry knot was attached differently.

The saber knot should be able to laid flat without doubling back upon itself with the "knot" at one end and the other slightly pointed with a small hole centered in the strap roughly 1" from the bitter end. Pass the bitter end through the outer most tine on the guard, then double the strap back over itself and pass through the "knot". Select one of the "fringes" and pass this through the hole located in the bitter end and cinch tight. Viola, a properly attached saber knot without disassembling the saber.
