Does anyone have any good advice on fixing a belt plate?
I have a South Carolina belt plate I got in a deal with other things off the Sell Forum here from a gentleman who said he ran in the campaigner crowd. I believe it to be 25A from civilwarbuckles.com and I would love to use this buckle from time to time. The problem is one of the "teeth" or "prongs" that attaches to the belt has broken off slightly above the bend so it won't really hold onto a belt properly.
Any ideas on what to do?

Form a new hook from some sheet brass and solder it on.

While I am very familiar with my local home improvement store, where can I find sheet brass? And as far as soldering it together goes, is there a special technique to use on brass?

Evan,
I don't know how much you have invested in this buckle already. Perhaps you should consider this. By the time you buy the sheet brass, the tools to cut and trim it, buy the soldering tools, learn to solder......You do know you can buy brand new lead filled belt plate for $15.00?
Just an Idea. If you e-mail me I'll even send you the address.

Shoot me a picture of the break: paulboulden@hotmail.com
A couple friends and I do plate repairs/conversions and we'd be more than happy to give you specific pointers...or work a repair out for you.
