Pards:

My Captain has a old (20yr) poncho, the paint/finish is cracking and falling off. Does
anyone have a recipe for repainting, rubberizing and or re-oiling the poncho in
order to restore it?

I ain't been around that long and I just use my oilcloth as a poncho or more usually I just get wet.

Thanks.

There's a recipe for do-it-yourself tarred canvas a few posts back. Either here or on the AC forum.

Bob, tell him to buy a new one. After 20 years, that poor thing needs to die a quiet death, not be abused further.

They aren't that expensive if you depreciate it over the next 20 years!

I have to agree with Mint,
Tell your Captain he is just going to have to "man-up" and buy a whole brand new what-ever-this-thing-was/is, Poncho/ground cover.

Boy! I just can't believe how you can't count on that "cheap" Sutler Row stuff! Forcing us to take this inferior junk. It falls apart on you after only 20 years of usage. Absolutely unbelievable!!!

I know a guy that carried an original gum blanket at events for some time. It held up quite well.

The ones on the Maple Leaf did pretty well, too, all things considered.

details without telling the Captain nothing! ;)

It's actually in very good shape and just needs some touch up to make it look fairly new.

I'll try to find that recipe for the coating.
