Hello,

As I said in a previous thread, I am looking for a decent federal Greatcoat and found the upper mississippi valley mercantile uses 22 oz wool which is heavier than most mid level sutlers. Has anyone ever got a coat from them? How do they rate? They told me they line there coat in 8 oz cotten. Gonna need a warm coat for Ceder Creek this year.

I bought a sack coat from them a while back and have been quite satisfied. It probably won't cut the mustard for the more authentics among us as the mill of the fabric isn't exactly perfect, but it has held up quite well and not faded hardly at all.

Thanks,

There one of the only midstream sutlers i have seen using 22 oz. wool, most are 18 oz. From what i can tell most people are happy with them. I dont wanna spend 400 dollars for something i'll wear twice a year on a top notch coat, besides, i'd be afraid of ruining it anyway.

You may need it at Cedar Creek, or you may not. It could be 70 or it could snow. Compare the greatcoat to the cost of a good blanket...which will keep you just as warm and get used more than often than twice per year.

Alot of times it is not what you have that makes the difference but what you leave out. Less is often more.
