Does anybody have any documentation, or picture of the practice of "cut down sack coats" in the western theatre? Also any documentation of enlisted men adding in pockets to their uniforms?

thanks for all the help,

Alex,

If the AC was functioning, I know there are a couple of threads that had some great info on those subjects. As it is, I think Pat Brown has documentation on the cut-down sack coats and I know Chris Daley has some info on field pockets - at least on overcoats. Good luck, Garrett

There was a great article in the Company Wag, the Mudsills newsletter from 1989 or so about this. IF you can track that down, you will surely benefit.

I myself wear a frock coat made by Nick Sekela, and a better tailor or historian can't be found. With all of the photos of variants on that page, however, it's a pity that a photo of a cut-down coat wasn't included. You're left with the vague "there are lots of pictures and documentation for these" text without any pictures.

There is a picture I have a copy of, of an Illinois Soldier wearing a cut Fatigue Blouse. He cut it just below the fourth button. If I get a chance I will post a copy. I have the copy of the Co. Wag with the article about field altered uniforms as well, if anyone would like a copy.
