The General Assembly of the Peoples Republic of Maryland failed to pass legislation to change the state song. April 13, 2009, was the last day of the General Assembly with the no action taken by the Senate and the bill introduced in the House died in Committee.

Therefore, Maryland My Maryland, is safe for one more year.

Safe, yes, with its load of secesh prattle and melodramatic, deathless lyrics.

Just because Randall's heartfelt lyrics concerning the usurption of Marylander rights isn't "politically correct" to Unionists of that era and this, doesn't mean that it isn't an accurate portrayl of how most Marylanders of that period thought. Lest it ever be understated, Dishonest Abe recieved a paltry 2.5 percent of the Maryland vote in 1860, and finished a distant 4th in the MD. Presidential election. (An election incidentally won by later Confederate General John Breckenridge).;-)
