Does anyone know anything about the 27th NJ? I just learned I had an ancestor in the regiment and I'd like to learn a little more. All I can find is that they were at Fredricksburg, but I don't know where they were located on the field.

Hi Bryan,

Try searching at Old Abe books as well to see if there is a regimental history out there. I don't know if there will be one. 27th looks like a 9 month regiment that was fortunate enough to avoid a lot of combat. That's not meant to disparage the service of your ancestor.

Is there a way to follow up on his service and see if he reenlisted with another unit after the 9 month term expired? That was not uncommon.
