Dixie tin works is now offering a medical pill tin for surgeons. These small pill tins are 1 x 1 x 3.5 inches. They are great for the pannier used by the 1st Asst. Surgeon. Look under misc. items. Priced very inexpensively. A simple label for opii or other pills can be attached. These are a copy from one type of period pill tin
He is located in Janesville, WI.

Okay, thank you! Not doubting you, just curious.
Looks like it was japanned.

These have the US Med Dept Label on them. The green color has been used along with the black original. I think they were produced in Philadelphia, PA not Astoria, NY.

What so you think that is? Paint? Some other type of japanning? I wonder how you could reproduce that? Any ideas? Mike

I picked some up too after reading this post the first time, and I know that it will at the very least make an excellent little container for assorted items. It has a good size and shape, with a nice snug fitting lid, and the price was quite nice as well. I don't purport to have serious knowledge of medical tins and such, so I can't vouch for its faithfulness to orginals, but even if the originals were painted or japanned, it won't be a stretch to do it yourself for this price.
