I don't understand! Please explain!
Not only is this NOT items for sale or trade, but it is a link to a site that does not welcome most the items that ARE sold here. Correct me if I am wrong, but this seems to be a lottery were the money collected will be donated in the name of this other site. This is like MADD asking for an extra Tax on all beer served in Bars so that they can give the money to the local police to make more DUI arrests! I mean the end result is good, but its how you get there that bothers me.
If I am the only one that has a problem with this let me know, I'll shut up! But I do have alot of WW2 German gear to sell,(just for those CW re-enactors that also do WW2), and I am sure there are some re-enactors from all the other time frames that would like to post Event Notices for thier Battles, maybe even do some recruiting if that is OK!
Why not see if this group will donate two books, list one here and the other "there". See who can bring in the most cash for thier cause. Then we all can vote for the charity that we feel needs it the most. I would really like to have a copy of this information, but I would not get involved in this!

I fully agree with you. It's OK if the favorite few on the other side post what they want, but JUST the favorite few. You get run off the board for asking ACW related questions, but some get to post whatever. Off-line I have asked why some posts go on and on and the peons get run off. The answer was, if you don't like it, don't come here. No wonder that they run off the fresh fish, and even seaoned reenactors. You have to have a PHD in ACW to post there, according to them.
End of rant.

I really don't understand what the issue is  . The money goes to preservation and you might get a book which many are looking for. The MADD analogy was a bit much too.

Paul,
Nobody is twisting your arm to make you enter into the raffle. Get off the us v. them kick. It was simply an FYI for people "here" who might want to enter into a raffle. As I recall several people on this sight lately have actually been looking for this very item...and here is a chance to perhaps get an out of print book for $5 and pitch in for a good cause which ALL reenactors should support.

Are you serious? The ACPP is one of the most worthy causes out there. Dusty Chapman and all who've contributed have brought about some incredible good and get alot of bang for the buck with the donations. This isn't about the Authentic-Campaigner or axes to grind with the campaign community, this is about preservation. Mr. Chapman posted on here as a service to those who might not know about the project or hadn't seen it on the AC.

Yeah really, c'mon! You are saying there is something wrong in raising money for preservation?!? You may need to rethink your hobby choice.

Moderator Hat: It has been a standing policy of this forum that we do no run down other CW related fora here. Further such posts will be deleted.

Being a rather new guy, I'll say this about the AC forum. All I had to do is follow the "rules" set up by the forum owners, I read the rules when I signed on, I read the FAQ's, as I was instructed and have never had to ask any question because I use the "Search" feature first. The AC forum is a wealth of well researched information.:D
Well done Mr moderator

Gentlemen, Don't misunderstand me, or say things for me that I did not say.
We all can see that the ACPP does good work and if you read my post I even stated i would like to have a copy of this book. Just not this way!
I am only calling it as I see it......
One of the Gents that posted "negatively" about me on this thread, posted just yeasterday "negatively" ref. a seller. It would seem that this Lad did not have a problem w/the seller but was supporting a "Pard" that did have a problem. If I may para-phrase, he stated that this site is for Military items for sale/trade, noting that this seller now had mostly items of a "female nature", being that all his "Military items" had been sold, should have his post moved to another area, and out of the "Military items for sale/trade".
deletion - THP; negative comment about a sister CW forum. I warned all about such comments earlier. Now if any of you are a member of the AC and wish to support the ACPP, more power to you! I still say why not contact this fine group, see if they will donate another book, knowing that ALL the money will go to preservation, and list one on this site. I myself will be sure to place MANY bids! But I myself would be willing to bet a months pay and my whiskey ration, that this group would NOT be willing to support the CWR Forum!
I only brought up the MADD thing as it was something they really tried in this area,(it was voted down), and if you would like to discuss it lets move down to the whine cellar.
And as for YOU Mr. Dam Yankee, I am very secure in my Hobby as I have been doing this for over 25 years now, and have been to events in over half the states of this fine Union, being a living historian for 3 National Battlefield Parks! When you have racked up the miles that I have traveled, then you can judge ME!
Unlike myself it would seem your "hypocrisy knows no bounds."

Mr. Bennett,
As stated above, this "ad" was placed here as many here would like a copy of the book. The book is out of print, and another copy is not available.
Preservation is for all of us, IMO. If the moderators want to, they can move/delete this. You can ignore it.
I hope to raise money for the CWPT with it. Here, there, and everywhere.

Trust me the moderators have no intention of deleting this thread. In fact, I even made a copy of the original post for the Preservation conference. That should be a signal to all what I feel about this raffle.

Sounds like you just did the same, I have been at this for 17 years, been a professional paid historical interpreter, traveled to France and lived on a 200 year old French farm and barn for 10 days while celebrating and commemorating the 60th anniversary of D-Day with the veterans. But I'm going to leave this alone..

Dear Mr. Chapman, I think it a wonderful thing that you posted here to let as many as possible know that a very rare copy of this book is availible! I was only stating that if the CRRC really wishes to boost donations for preservation then maybe they could see fit to offer TWO COPIES! One for us here on the CWRF and one for the AC. There are many of us here on the CWRF that wish to keep improveing our kits and impressions, and would greatly appreciate the information this book holds.
Dear Mr. Pritchett, I must agree with Mr. Heagy in saying that I think the AC Forum is a wonderful place for research and searching for information ref. The American Civil War. I do not post there for personial reasons that have nothing to do with this site or this thread. If i have said anything negative ref. the AC Forum in this thread I am very sorry and it was not intended.
I just do not feel that we should be allowed to link an ad to thier web-site just as I do not think anyone here should link an ad for an E-bay auction they may be holding.
Respectfully submitted,

Referring to the quote below:

All of the posts in the classifieds are ads listing various MILITARY items for sale. Dusty put up an ad for raffle tickets that are for sale. The item is a military item it belongs where he originally posted the ad, and if it didn't the mods would have moved it. If you BUY a ticket and you win you have indirectly bought yourself a book. If the raffle was for a civilian item I would expect that Dusty would have posted it in the civilian classified folder on the forum. I'm not sure what is so hard to understand about this situation...deletion - THP; personal

This is what the AC post said: "The Columbia Rifles have donated a copy of the Columbia Rifles Research Compendium "that has a few minor scrapes on the cover, as received from the printer," to the ACPP to award to one lucky preservationist."
So someone in the Columbia Rifles organization donated a copy to raffle off in the name of preservation. Mr. Chapman has been doing things like this for a couple of years now. Preservation is Dusty's calling, and he has the support of the AC.
I would offer this then, why doesn't someone from any one of X organizations that frequents the CWR forums donate one to CWR for the sake of a raffle that's held for this forum.
You don't need a Ph.D to post there, just ask decent questions other than "Who makes the best widget?" Or, "how do I defarb my widget?"

All for preservation,
It seems that you do not understand what I am saying, I will try again with different words.
You stated that "Dusty put up an ad for raffle tickets that are for sale."
This is NOT TRUE. Mr. Chapman simply provided a link to another web site with no description what so ever. This is not an "Ad", it is a "Plug". In my mind this is just like if I were to place a Sack Coat on Ebay and then place a plug on this site directing people to my auction......we all know that this is not allowed and have been told by the "mods" as you call them, (I prefer the term "Gentlemen of Reason"!). This was never about "Where" this post should go, it is more about will the "mods" now allow shameless Plugs?
Now, the second issue is all yours Sir. It seems a Gent posted a forsale thread w/both Military and Civilian items. The Military items sold and he was left w/mostly civilian items. YOU attacked this thread based on the fact that the "mods" had not moved this thread to the "Civilian for sale" list. It seems that almost all that bought items from this Gent liked them very much, but one was not happy and attacked the Gent over his return policy. It also seems you joined in on this attack when the CWRF policy clearly states that the....."link for reporting fraud to the USPS was posted. The official policy of this forum towards transactions conducted through the Classified is "Buyer Beware" However, if you do believe that you were victim of false representation of an item and the item was shipped via the USPS, you can, as one option, post a complaint against the seller at this link."
My bigger point Sir was.... I don't think it is any of your business! This is between the buyer and the seller,(just like everything we buy/sell here), and we need not be involved. Now if you care to voice your opinion about something there is a "Whine Cellar" down below. If you have a question about a product then post it here.....just like I did last night!

The bold and underlined are mine.
As for the AC, I found it best to stick to trolling around the forums, using the SEARCH feature, and being selective as to which questions to ask (through a mistake or two). I think using the various features (SEARCH, FAQ, etc) and looking at the boards, you would be able to understand what it takes not to be flamed to death on that board.

If you had bothered to notice, not only did I approve of what you are terming a "shameless plug", I made a second copy of the thread and posted it in the Preservation conference. Since it should now be obvious that the moderators do approve of Dusty's post about the auction, I would suggest that you drop this line of complaining.
