A friend asked me if I had ever heard of a valley in Ohio that was used by deserters of both sides, as a place to hide out. In all my readings and conversations of the CW, I have not heard of such a place. Anyone?

I don't know about Ohio, but here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, during the War, Federal and confederate deserters hid out in an area of the Pocomoke (Native American for Black waters) Forrest. There was an old village even at that time called Furnace Town. It has been restored and is used for different social activities.

That's interseting. It sounds like one of the Sharpes Rifles novels (pretty good too) and a true location in WW I. I can imagine it happening here.
