Hello once again pards,
I am now wondering where the best vendors are to get a great federal frock coat. I know that there is Nick Sekala, but that is all I know. So I need some guidance, and also was wondering what some of you guys might think about the frock coats over at provisional supply company? Please, would like some links and some advice. Thanks.

Comrade,
If you keep an eye on the classified section here and over on the AC, there have been quite a few coats for sale over the past few months. I picked mine up used almost a year ago. With so many guys leaving the hobby or cutting back on their holdings, it's a great time to buy if you intend to stick around for awhile. I bet if you posted your size and how much you're looking to spend, you may get an answer. Otherwise, watch the classifieds.

I echo Billy's suggestion. I have two enlisted frocks I bought used on the AC.
(FYI - I would like to sell one of them now.)

There's some good advice being offered by the above folks. It does indeed seem like more and more quality gear is being offered everyday for sale (I'm guilty as I've had to sell off alot of stuff as of late). Mr. Sekela is indeed a quality maker of frocks, as that is where I purchased mine and I'm more than satisfied with the quality, materials, workmanship, and research that went into it. I would also throw out the name Joe Blunt of J. Blunt Clothiers (email at mudcatsgt@earthlink.net). His Federal frocks are very well known amongst a smaller set of reenactors and feature all of the above traits as well.

Good suggestion on Mr. Blunt Ross. My fed frock is also a Sekela that I picked up off the AC a couple of years ago.
Also, Casey Osgood is starting to produce them if I understand correctly. I have never seen one of his frocks, but last year I received an impecably made SA infantry jacket from him that I am very pleased with.
A couple of years ago when I was looking for a frock someone put me on to Stephanie Waldron in New York. Her coat (the one that I saw) was nicely constructed and considerably cheaper than Sekela's. I am not sure what, if any, short-cuts she may have taken to make it cheaper, but macroscopicly it was nicely made. She does not use the same quality of material as Sekela, which may account for some of the price difference.
Hope that helps - good luck. -Garrett

Casey got out of the business last year to attend to raising the family. Maybe he is still doing some individual contract work thought.

http://www.cwreenactors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10819&highlight=Casey+Osgood He's back and has been on several threads on this forum the last few months and weeks. He also has some instock stuff at E.J. Thomas Mercantile, particularly his excellent Fed haversacks.

Yep still kicking around. Although im making stuff for EJ Thomas. Kinda tough juggling the full time job, wife, kids and reenacting group. Anyhow I am making 3 different frock coats:
Schuylkill Arsenal pattern- Copied from a Heavy Artillery frock in West Point
James Boylan Contract- Copied from an original 10th NY Heavy Artillery frock in a private collection
"Sgt. Cobb's" Frock- Copied from an original ID'd to Sgt. Harlan Cobb US Engineer battalion in West Point. This is a tailor altered issue frock, of a NY depot issue ( just an inspectors stamp). Has an added velvet collar, cuffs are changed to non functional. Lining is a checked cotton, trim on upper collar is gone etc.. Its pictured in EOG, under the engineers uniforms.
Frocks go for $450 for any of the patterns. If people ask why so expensive, let them try to make one!
In the near future EJ Thomas will have some frocks, and 5 more haversacks from me, and possible some unlined SA sack coats. Stay tuned.

Ross,
Thanks for the plug on the haversacks. These were the first item I ever sold public, and I still enjoy making them even after 100's. Plus I have 6 more patterns then what I used to have.
Guys,
Any call for blue line duck haversacks? I have access to one, but wont make them if no one wants them.
Also keep your eyes open, I am making a proto type officers painted cloth haversack! Copied from an original in a private collection.

Wambaugh, White, & Company

You can also check S&S Sutlers of Gettysburg they might have frock coats in stock. If don't they might be able to have Jim Warehime, Ray Hock or Jody Nolan make one for you.
