Thanks,

Matthew RennierI got a wiper, ball puller and bore scraper from Lodgewood Manufacturing, but a word of caution: Buying implements like that is a little like buying shoes off the web - You risk having them not fit, in this case being the threads on the wiper being different from those on the end of your rammer. Strange as it may sound, the wiper doesn't fit the rammer on my 1855 but the bore scraper and ball puller do, and the wiper does fit the rammer on my son's 1861 ... And they used the same rammer.

Hallo!
"Where would be the best place to buy a really good wiper?"
An "expensive" original can sometimes be found at shops like the Horse Soldier or College Hill, etc.
Repro's.. so much. ;) :)
Aside from the quality, the Italain wipers are threaded to more than one metric size, so they fit some repro Italain ramrods but not others.
Plus there are the repro ramrods made for the originals.
Plus there are the ramrods that are left over length and unthreaded for the lad to measure, cut, and tap as needed.
I have 4-5 repro wipers fitting, or fitted, to various guns.

If you ran into this problem you could always have your rammer re-threaded. That's what I did with mine when I left it with John Zimmerman to have my gun defarbed. I may have even gotten my wiper etc. with him. I like the idea of an original. You could maybe check ebay. From time to time they have original tools at an affordable price.

As noted above, it a good idea to take the rammer with you when buying the worm/wiper. You can try it on before leaving the store/sulter.
At nearly every event with a sutler, they'll have a worm.
