Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had a used N J Sekala or equivalent Federal issue blanket for sale. Authentic vendors only please. I'm wanting a quality blanket but if it gets too close to the "new" price then I'd just buy it brand new from Sekala.

Thanks in advance,
Andrew Schultz

At that price you can have it. I gotta laugh just thinking about how many departed (real) Rebs are rolling over in their graves with what is spend today on this hobby.

Thanks to all that posted helpful replies to my inquiry about the Fed blanket on ebay. I had my eye on that one and thought I could get it for a while but it was not to be:( and I will not bid it up so that Tyler has to pay more for it.
Tyler good luck, hope you get it for a real deal and maybe I'll get to see it sometime at an event, it looks awesome.:)
Anyway I'm still in the search if someone has one that they would like to sell for less than what a new NJ Sekala blanket would cost. Quality vendors only, pleeeeze.

Thanks,
Andrew Schultz

For what it is going for on e-bay, I would almost consider selling mine. Have to see what happens with that... Not not really. I got mine back in '97 with my graduation money. I like it too much to give it up. With the auction going like that, one has to wonder if our stuff is becoming collectible.;) I do remember seeing a pair of repop brogans on sale at the Mansfield, OH show, and it listed them as being worn a the 125th Gettysburg.

Nothing.
The funny thing is...this blanket @ $212 is why this country is in the financial shape it's in right now.

Interesting;
I purchased that same blanket from the Jersey Skillet Licker about 3 or 4 years ago. I had mentioned to Joe on the phone, that I was looking for another Fed blanket and lo and behold he found me one (The Augie Weissert) right here on this forum! Now you'ns are going to want and kill me for this, but I purchased it used (in excellent condition) for about $75, give or take plus postage.:mrgreen:
$212 for a blanket is pretty steep in my opinion.
I did own a beautiful Woodburn/Mount blanket, but reluctantly sold it only to hear later that my pard had lost it:(
Yellowhammer; good luck in your blanket search!

Sincerely it isn't the reason why our country is in financial crisis right now, as there are much bigger reasons, individuals and companies responsible. The price figure of $212 is our capitalist market showing what it will bare for one individual willing to go the extra mile for authenticity. Sure, its steep, but whoever bought it doesn't put a dollar figure on correctness and what kind of dedication it takes to do this right. Some will also find it crazy that I have at least 10 pieces of equipment or clothing that each cost more than what I paid for my car ($500), but I find much more satisfaction and get much more out of what I use for living history anyway. Everyone has a level that they are willing and able to get to, and if a $212 tag is what it takes for that person who bought it, who the heck are we to criticize. You keep using that Vietnam era army surplus blanket and leave the expensive ones to those that appreciate it.

Well Ross;
I applaud the individual for their effort in authenticity. However I still think $212 is very steep for a blanket whatever condition its in.:confused:
Unfortunatly the price was driven up due to the bidding on that particular auction as I believe when those blankets were new they cost no where near that.
Just my opinion and I will leave it at that. I'm sure there are others who agree.
I'm in no way trying to start a flame war.

With this blanket going for 212.00 I would not be surprised to see more pop on ebay soon. However they may not go for as much, it is always that first one that takes the cake.

In my view, one has to remember when putting together or maintaining their impression that there was A LOT of variety during the war with this stuff, so one really needs to understand period construction techniques, government specs for stuff, and period materials. As an example having a Auggie blanket that cost 212.00 does not make you any more authentic than having a 100 NJ Nick blanket. Both were done properly and both are equally authentic. Even if you were portraying Auggie's regiment, except for that first issue of uniforms and equipment, soldiers would typically replace things as needed, so even within the same company their would be variation in everything because it just depended on what the Quartermaster had on hand at the time.

People,

I'm so amused with all the Hubbub about the Weissert blanket. Who cares that I paid $212 for something that I wanted. I think it's called, "Supply and Demand".
I spoke with a good friend from Brodhead, WI about it before I bid and after that conversation...well, all who were watching it knows the story. Pretty much Ross L. sumed up my reason perfectly for bidding what I did.

If another comes up, I hope you get it for less. Sorry if I contributed to your, "failing economy":rolleyes:

I have mine....do you??
