Im sure we have all run across the Equipment Of Cpl Brooke at somepoint. It has been studied over 101010384953839290 times. But i was wondering, since i havent had much time to study, when was his blanket issued. Really what i want to kno is what type of blanket is it? What depot issued it? About what time frame would it have been seen?

Thank you so very much,
Hunter Smith

http://www.southernguard.org/education/brooke.html This article describes in detail a jacket that he received while serving in 1864 with the Richmond Howitzers and it is widely believed he received the blanket at about the same time, as they were all in his possesion upon parole at the end of the war.

Ross gave you the information you need to answer your questions.

I have read the article twice already. I kno that since the blanket was in his poscession upon parole that it is supposed that it was issued at the same time. I wanna kno though if they were ever issued at an earlier date? Were these blankets some sort of contract that the confeds had with some unknown producer? I want the low down, the nitty gritty.

Since I believe it resides in the museum of the Confederacy, perhaps an enquiry to them may give you more enlightenment than the rest of us can. To my current knowledge, it is the only one of its type in existance and nobody knows if it was a depot issue, an open procurement contract, civilian supplied, soldiers aid society, etc, but perhaps the MOC knows and hasn't let the rest of the world in on it.

Whats the urgency here? Have you found one in attic and want to confirm it? seems like a tezzy over some obscure material, looks like cotton-canvas

Nothing obscure about the original blanket - its wool.
