Does anyone know a good source for officers quality Dark blue wool or broadcloth?

Enlisted quality wool is rather easy to find, however im looing for a finer quality material.

I have searched the forums with next to no result.

David,

Give Needle & Thread a call. They carry a Pendleton Melton Wool and the Hainesworth Broadcloth. Will depend on your budget as Hainesworth is very expensive. They have great service and should have it within a week. Don Smith from Trans-Mississippi Depot recommended them and those wools and that's what I used for my trousers.

Ditto on Harry's suggestion. You can get no better than both of those mentioned, but they are indeed costly. Unfortunately, for good officer grade material, the choices are limited and expensive.

I'd give them a call.

They will be able to give you a better quote than I can and are very helpful.

My dear, I'd suggest going with the Hainesworth broadcloth but make sure you never change size for the rest of your life after I get the uniform made.

Are there other carriers of Hainesworth wools besides Needle and Thread?

I went right to the source. I was looking for good wool for a conf. frock and Needle and Thread only carries the federal colors. I got a good education for importing fabric. It wasn't that big of a deal and the Hainesworth people are great to work with. You will have some expenses for the import fees and taxes and shipping. My final price came in just a shade under what Neadle and Thread sells per yard, but I got the color and wool that I wanted. Hainesworth sent me swatches of everything they produce so I could look. Since the swatches are free, you may find something different then what is at Neadle and Thread and you can get it directly from England.

One more source is Najecki Reproductions, www.najecki.com. They mainly cater to the Rev.War folks, but their Abimelech-Hainsworth superfine wools are excellent. But as you may have noticed, good wool is quite pricey.
