Since I travel alot on my job I dont get to reenact as much and so I have turned a basement room into a museum/war time office of sorts. If I cant get to the field Ill bring it home to keep me in the times. Things I lack is a stove of some sort and a proper hanging lamp to replace the modern ceiling fixture. One thing EOG lacks is civilian equipment such as stoves, household items or even military stoves/heaters etc. Any good sources for these? I am relooking at all the time life, library books etc and have visited several victorian houses but none are real sure about the dates of their contents. I came across a three legged stove a man called a "lincoln stove" , looks similar but not exact as the ones in his ill home. at any rate , these things are pricey and want to save up for only what is period. no use shelling out big bucks only to find out later its 1870's and not earlier. any help greatly appreciated. recently ther ewere three sibley stoves on ebay but i missed them all at near three hundred for each

http://www.csa-dixie.com/villagetinsmith/f.html Can't go wrong with #71 hanging lamp. I've had two myself over the years and Bill Hoover bases everything from originals he owns or has thoroughly examined.

Hey Ross
(Sorry Rob, I'm gonna highjack this thread just a little)
This brings up a question that I have been thinking about and the older threads on this forum are a little 'thin'.
Being the Paymaster with the ability to have the 'comforts of home' (more or less), what is the proper lantern or lamp?
I know some of the guys use the Dietz style lantern (cold blast) but the earliest 'hot blast' patten was 1868. The earlier ones (from what I can find) were the 'dead flame' style and I can't seem to find anyone who makes a reproduction of those.
Or, should I stay with the oil lamp with the glass bowl etc?
To my detriment, I'm way to Anal about this and 1868 just wont cut it :p
Thoughts?
Mark

[QUOTE=mravery]Hey Ross
Of course the weekend campaigning is the gem of reenacting, but the homefront and war department has it place as well. this is where I imagine curators have a lot of research to perform to make sure the pieces they display are period correct. there are lots of lamps and using Ross's illustration I have something to go on, thanks
