I was looking around the internet to find some wool to make a civilian frock coat and was wondering if any one here knew of a good site to buy wool buy the yard?

Have you looked at Wambaugh and White, Ben Tart or Charlie Childs County Cloth? They also have various jeans cloth which would be better for civilian coats (especially for a southern impression) any way. But it is whatever you want my friend.
Good luck I hope this helps,

I ditto all of the above answers from the second thread, particularly Wambaugh & White, as well as 96 District Storehouse (Peggy and Dennis Earp) www.96storehouse.com

Don't forget to check out your local fabirc stores. Especially this time of year. There is alot of 100% wool, and corduroy out there. Places like Joanne's Fabric, any of the national chains. If you live near a predominently Amish or Meninite town they also have fabric. I live just an hour north of Shipsewanna in Indiana lots of choices there.

The original poster is from the west coast of Florida, where I assure you there is little to no sources for wool or flannel commercially. I've been to every JoAnn fabrics in a 7 county area here.

Yes it is true finding wool or flannel is not an easy task here. i have looked at just about every fabric store in my county and the surounding three county's and if you know how big florida county's are then you will know how much driving that is.

Our company just got a large lot of wool flannel from Denver Fabrics. It's good stuff. I'll also echo what the others have said about Wambaugh, Tart, Childs, etc. As far as Hamilton Dry Goods goes, it's best to visit the store unless you know exactly what you're looking for.

You may wish to check out www.reconstructinghistory.com. They cater to pre-civil war clothing, patterns, but their broadcloth and kersey is, IMHO, decent and reasonably priced. They are easy to work with too.

Here is a nice website for wool broadcloth & melton. I used their Cadet Gray Broadcloth to construct an double breasted officers frock coat.

Another option you might check on is the Stony Brook Company. In addition to Federal trousers Chris Sullivan also sells some wool by the yard. He has various colors in the 85/15 blended materials and only blues in the 100% wool:

While it has nothing to do with fabric, something I truly appreciate it that he has great customer service, which is always a plus when spending tons of money on a hobby.

Since we are on the wool discussion here;
What was the name of that British company that
made their own textiles for military, rev war, and civil war
a few years ago. I believe their wool was around 30 $$ a yard.
I do not think it was Melton Cloth, but someone in England.
The name excapes me.
