Take I-75 North / or South to Exit 320 (Resaca)
NOTE: As of this writing there are some gas shortages in Georgia. The "Flying J" just east off Exit 320 had gas yesterday. Also a good convenience store, restaurant, etc.
Turn LEFT if going North / Right if going South off I-75 at Exit 320 onto GA-136 West.
NOTE #2: As soon as you cross over I-75, look RIGHT. This is the site of the soon-to-be Battle of Resaca State Historic Area. It's 504 acres and runs north from where you are. For the next several miles, you will be on historic land. Just past the Resaca Battlefield plot, note small hills on either side of GA-136. Union artillery was placed on these hills by Major General James. A. McPherson in his abortive attempt to get behind Joe Johnston's Confederates at Resaca. GA 136 follows the route that McPherson took through Snake Creek Gap in an attempt to get behind the Confederate Army. Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman knew of this gap, not marked on any map, as he had surveyed the area in the late 1840s as a young army engineer. There is a historical marker at Snake Creek Gap. You'll also pass the historic Villanow General Store - red brick bldg on your left. The store dates to 1840 and McPherson's Federals marched past here (and reportedly cleaned out all the Mt. Dew and Moon Pies).
Stay on GA 136 and follow signs to LaFayette, GA.
There's a slight jog to the right at an intersection, and later, one to the left. There are direction signs along the way. Just watch the road signs and stay on GA 136.
As you near LaFayette, GA you'll come to an intersection with a BP station. There's a large event sign with an arrow to the left. A better way is to go straight across the intersection at the BP into downtown LaFayette. This becomes GA 193 as your cross the intersection.
Go about 3-4 blocks to the second traffic light and turn LEFT onto the main drag through town (US 27).
Note #3: LAST CHANCE FOR FOOD! If you go RIGHT on US 27, there is a Sonic and a couple of other fast food places. Also, gas stations, etc. This is the last outpost of civilization before you get to the event site. LaFayette was Braxton Bragg's HQ during the skirmish at McLemore's Cove and the days leading up to Chickamauga.
From the center of LaFayette, GA - where you just came up to the second traffic light, turn LEFT on US 27 and go about 4 blocks and turn RIGHT onto GA 193. There is a Family Dollar Store on the LEFT.
You are going to go about 6-7 miles to event check in.
After a few miles, you will wind down a few steep switch backs. You are in Ship's Gap. This line was held by Maj. Gen. Patrick Cleburne's Division the week before Chickamauga.
Go a few more miles and look for event check in on the LEFT. Travel safe!
