Below are a few resources to help us all get along better on this new medium. To learn what good manners are on the net, go to most any search engine and enter the term "Netiquette".
"Much has been written about the importance of behaving diplomatically while online."
I used to have a favorite site linked on here but I think it got wiped out in the February hard drive crash, I'll try to relocate that.
For how to deal with -others- who are not exhibiting good manners on the forum, our chosen method to remedy that is the "alert" key, referred to elsewhere. This quotes the exact message in question, allows you space to comment on why you think this message exceeds our broad guidelines and sends me an email message including a hot link to go directly to that message. This vastly increases my ability to deal with problems in a timely manner.
If you argue with someone about it, it only compounds the problem.
You can read about those who delight in disrupting forums, often referred to as "trolls" and referred to (fondly) by me as "pirates," at the following link:
http://members.aol.com/intwg/trolls.htm
At the end of that page you will find a link to this site:
http://members.aol.com/intwg/guide.htm
which offers a short but very nice course on how to write effective messages on the internet. I have not scanned every line of each page there but the ones I've looked at would be helpful for many, I'm sure.
Lastly, if you'd like to recommend a site that speaks to this issue, please feel free to post it in the New Users forum or email me with the link.
Respectfully,
Provost
